What to Expect from Your First Reiki Session
July 11, 2026 · 6 min read

I remember my first time lying down to receive Reiki as if it were today. My heart was beating a little faster, my head full of questions: "will I feel anything?", "what if I can't relax?", "is this for me?". Perhaps you're feeling exactly that right now.
And that's perfectly fine. The unknown always stirs something in us. But I want to take your hand and lovingly show you what really happens in a first session — no mystery, no magical promises, just truth and warmth.
Come with me.
So, what exactly is Reiki?
First of all, let me explain it to you in a simple way. Reiki is a hands-on practice that works with life force energy — the energy that pulses in everything that has life. The idea is to foster a deep state of relaxation, balance, and inner harmony.
I want to be honest with you from the start, because I believe that caring for someone also means not creating illusions: Reiki is a support for your well-being, a form of complementary care. It does not cure diseases and does not replace medical or psychological treatment. If you are undergoing any treatment, continue doing so — Reiki walks alongside, never in place of it.
With that understanding of transparency, now I can tell you how everything flows in practice.
How the Session Begins: Our Conversation
Every journey begins with a meeting. Before any hands-on work, we talk.
I truly cherish this moment. It's when you tell me what brought you here — it could be anxiety that gives you no respite, a phase of exhaustion, a search for self-knowledge, or simply the desire to slow down. There's no such thing as a "too small" reason. Everything that weighs on you deserves to be heard.
This conversation serves to:
- Align expectations — so you understand what Reiki is (and isn't)
- Embrace your current moment — without judgment, without rush
- Make you feel at ease — trust is the foundation of everything
Since my sessions are 100% online, this care happens through the screen, in a space that's just ours, where you can speak freely and truly be heard.
And How Does Distance Reiki Work?
This is one of the questions I receive most often, so let me address it with care.
Reiki works with energy — and energy knows no distance. That's why it's entirely possible to receive a session in the comfort of your home, without needing to go out, without traffic, without rushing.
You'll choose a quiet spot, wear comfortable clothes, and simply allow yourself to receive. I conduct the session remotely, while you relax lying down or sitting, in your own space. Many women tell me they feel even more at ease this way, precisely because they are at home, in their safe territory.
What You'll Feel During the Session
Here comes the golden question: "Cris, but will I feel anything?"
The most honest answer is: each body responds in its own way. And all ways are valid.
Some of the most common sensations people report include:
- A sensation of gentle warmth moving through the body
- A slight tingling, like small waves of energy
- Such deep relaxation that you might want to doze off (and yes, you can sleep!)
- Your breathing becoming slower and calmer
- That pleasant lightness, as if a weight has lifted from your shoulders
And what if you don't feel anything very distinct? That's also perfectly fine. Not feeling tingling or warmth doesn't mean the session "didn't work." Relaxation and rebalancing happen even in the quietest moments. Trust your own rhythm.
How Long It Lasts and What to Do Afterward
A session usually lasts between 40 minutes and 1 hour, including our initial conversation. It's the perfect amount of time for you to disconnect from the world and turn inward.
After everything finishes, it's normal to feel a few things — and I want to gently prepare you:
- You might feel that sensation of lightness and well-being, like after a good night's sleep
- Or you might feel a bit sleepy and want to rest — your body asking for quiet
- Some people become more emotional, wanting to cry or reflect
All of this is part of the process of self-knowledge that Reiki invites. My friendly advice: after the session, drink plenty of water, avoid rushing, and if possible, set aside some time just for yourself. Treat yourself with kindness.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
There's no fixed rule, and be wary of anyone who promises you a magic formula.
Many women feel benefits from the very first session — that calm, that relief. But energetic care, just like physical care, flourishes with consistency. Think of Reiki as a regular act of kindness you offer yourself, not as a single-dose remedy.
In our conversation, after getting to know you better, I'll guide you on what makes sense for your current moment — always respecting your time and your wishes.
How About Experiencing This Up Close?
If reading this far has given you that pleasant little tug in your chest, perhaps it's your moment to experience it. The first session is an invitation to pause, to reconnect with your inner light — and I would love to walk alongside you on this journey, with all the warmth you deserve.
No pressure, no obligation. Just reach out so we can chat and feel, together, if it makes sense for you right now.
