Tarot and self-knowledge: how the cards reveal you
July 16, 2026 · 7 min read

I know how it is. You hear the word "tarot" and immediately that image comes to mind: a fortune teller predicting the future, saying if love will arrive or if a job is on the way. And I understand, because for a long time that's how tarot was presented to us.
But let me tell you something, with all my heart: the tarot I bring into my space, therapeutic tarot, isn't about predicting anything. It's about helping you see yourself. It's about self-knowledge. And that's precisely where the true magic of the cards lies.
When we sit together and open the deck, we're not trying to discover what destiny has in store. We're opening a door within you. To what your heart already knows, but what your mind, full of noise and rush, hasn't yet managed to put into words.
But does tarot really predict the future?
This is perhaps the question I hear most often, so I'll be honest with you from the start.
I don't believe in tarot as a crystal ball. The cards don't decide your life, they don't set dates, they don't take away your power to choose your own path. Anyone who claims they do would be very disrespectful to your freedom and your journey.
What tarot does is reflect the energy of your present moment. It shows what is alive within you right now: the fears you didn't even notice, the desires you've been silencing, the patterns that repeat themselves and you haven't yet named.
Think of the cards as a mirror. The mirror doesn't invent your face; it simply reflects an image back to you that you don't always stop to look at. Therapeutic tarot is that mirror of the soul. It shows you to yourself.
How do the cards manage to reveal who I am?
Something beautiful happens here, and I love explaining it.
Each tarot card carries an archetype — an image, a symbol, an energy that exists within every human being. The Empress speaks of our side that creates, nurtures, and embraces. The Hermit speaks of our need for silence and introspection. The Tower speaks of what needs to crumble for something new to be born.
There are different decks that carry these same archetypes, each with its own language of images. The most well-known are the Rider Waite tarot, with detailed scenes that facilitate intuitive reading, and the Marseille tarot, older and more symbolic. Regardless of the deck, what matters is the gentle way the images converse with your soul.
When these images appear before you, something curious happens: you project what you're feeling onto them. And it's in this projection that the revelation lies.
It's not the cards that know about you. It's you who recognizes yourself in them.
That's why tarot works so well as a self-knowledge tool:
- It gives image and name to feelings that were confused within you
- It brings to light patterns that repeat in your life without you noticing
- It creates a safe space for you to speak about what you usually keep silent
- It invites you to reflect, instead of simply giving you a ready-made answer
In a session, often a person looks at a card and says: "Wow, this is me right now." This moment of recognition is pure self-knowledge happening. The cards only opened the way. The wisdom was always yours.
What happens in a therapeutic tarot session?
I want you to feel calm and welcomed, so let me show you what it's like, with no mystery at all.
Our conversation starts with you. Before any cards, we talk about your current moment, what brought you here, what's weighing on your heart. Tarot comes afterward, as support for this conversation, never in its place.
As the cards appear, I don't give you a verdict. I ask you questions. I invite you to feel, to reflect, to notice what that image awakens in you. It's a dialogue, a journey we take together, with lightness and without judgment.
And an important thing: the best questions for therapeutic tarot are those that look at you, not at other people. Instead of "will he come back?", we work with "what do I need to heal within myself right now?". Instead of "will I get the job?", we ask "what is blocking me on this path?". Feel the difference? One takes away your power. The other gives it back to you.
Do I need to believe in tarot for it to work?
You don't need to. And look at the freedom that brings.
You don't need to have any specific belief for a therapeutic tarot session to touch you. What matters is your openness to look within, to listen to yourself, to make space for your feelings.
I've received very rational women who arrived skeptical and left surprised — not because the cards "were right," but because for the first time in a long time they stopped to listen to their own souls. Tarot was just the invitation. The transformation happened within them.
And I want to make it very clear, with all the honesty you deserve: therapeutic tarot is a support for your well-being and self-knowledge. It does not cure diseases, does not replace medical or psychological care, and should not be used in place of health treatment. If you are experiencing deep suffering, please also seek care from health professionals. Holistic therapies walk alongside this care, with lightness, never in its place.
How can tarot help me in my daily life?
This is perhaps the most beautiful part of our journey with the cards: the self-knowledge that blossoms in a session doesn't stay confined there. It accompanies you.
When you get to know yourself better, you:
- Make decisions with more clarity and less fear
- Recognize when you are repeating a pattern that hurts you
- Embrace your emotions instead of running from them
- Find more harmony between what you feel and what you do
- Reconnect with your inner light, the one that life sometimes dims
Tarot gradually becomes a tool for presence. A reminder that you have all the wisdom you need within yourself. The cards just help you remember.
