What questions to ask Tarot (the right ones change everything)
June 27, 2026 · 6 min read

There is one thing I've learned along my journey with the cards, and it's perhaps the most important of all: the quality of your reading begins long before shuffling the deck. It begins with the question.
I've welcomed so many people who arrived anxious, with a heavy heart, wanting to know "will it work out?" or "will he come back?". And I truly understand. When we are living with a doubt that weighs on our chest, all we want is a quick answer, a yes or a no that calms us down all at once.
But Tarot is not a machine for ready-made answers. It is a mirror of your soul, an invitation to self-knowledge. And the question you ask is the key that opens (or closes) this mirror. It doesn't matter if you use a more classic deck, like the Rider-Waite Tarot or the Marseille Tarot: what truly guides the reading is the intention you carry in your heart.
So today I want to talk with you about what questions to ask Tarot in a way that brings clarity, lightness, and true healing. No cold formulas. Just us, with open hearts.
Why does the right question change everything in a reading?
Imagine you are talking to a wise friend, one of those who know you inside out. If you ask "am I doomed to be unhappy?", what space do you leave for her to help you? Almost none. The question already places you in a position of helplessness.
Now, if you ask "what can I cultivate within myself to find more harmony?", look at how everything changes. You open a door. You invite advice, reflection, movement.
Tarot works just like that. The cards respond to the energy of your question. Closed question, closed answer. A question that seeks a pathway, an answer full of inner light and possibilities.
The right question transforms the session from a search for destiny into an exercise of self-knowledge. And that is where healing lives.
What are the best questions to ask Tarot?
Throughout my sessions, I've noticed that the most transformative questions almost always begin with "how", "what", or "in what way". They invite action, looking inward.
Here are a few that often open up beautiful and deep readings:
- "What do I need to understand about this phase of my life?"
- "How can I take better care of my relationship with [a loved one]?"
- "What energy is blocking me right now and how can I release it with ease?"
- "What is my intuition trying to show me that I haven't listened to yet?"
- "In what way can I get closer to my dreams?"
- "What did this challenge come to teach me about myself?"
Do you notice the pattern? They all put you at the center of your own story. Not as a victim of fate, but as the protagonist of your journey. Tarot, in this format, becomes a warm hug that helps you see what your heart already knew.
Which questions should I not ask Tarot?
I share this part with a lot of love, because I know that some of these questions stem from real pain. But there are questions that, instead of bringing you peace, distance you from it.
Yes or no questions. "Will I get married?", "Does he love me?". They reduce all the richness of the oracle to a single word and leave you without direction on what to do with the answer.
Questions about other people's private lives. "What is he thinking right now?", "Did she cheat on me?". Here I am very honest with you: Tarot, in my understanding, respects free will and everyone's privacy. Instead of invading someone else's soul, it is much more healing to look at yourself: "how can I find security within myself, regardless of what the other person does?".
Fatalistic questions. "Will I be poor forever?", "Am I doomed to solitude?". These questions already carry a sentence, and the universe doesn't work through sentences. By the Law of Attraction, what we feed with thought and emotion tends to strengthen, which is why it is so important to ask from a place of desire, not fear. Everything is movement, everything can be transformed.
Questions with exact dates. "On what day will I get the job?". Tarot points to tendencies and energies, not clock times.
The same question repeated multiple times. When we repeat the same question expecting the answer we want to hear, we lose trust in the process and in our own intuition. One answer at a time, calmly.
How to transform a poor question into a powerful one?
This is one of the things I love teaching the most, because it is simple and completely changes your experience.
The secret is taking the focus off "will it or won't it" and putting it on "what do I do with this". Look at these examples of transformation happening:
- Instead of "will he come back?" → "what do I need to heal in myself to experience lighter relationships?"
- Instead of "will I get the job?" → "how can I prepare and empower myself for this opportunity?"
- Instead of "will I be happy?" → "what is within my reach today to cultivate more joy in my life?"
Did you feel the difference in energy? The first version leaves you waiting. The second puts you in motion. The most beautiful Tarot reading is the one that gives you back your own power.
A warm tip: before the session, write your questions down on paper. In the midst of emotion we forget what we really wanted to know, and writing helps you arrive with an organized heart.
Shall we ask this question together?
If you've made it this far, it's because there is a doubt in your heart asking for light. And I would love to walk this journey by your side, with warmth and without any judgment.
In my Therapeutic Tarot, we don't look for ready-made answers, we look for clarity and self-knowledge. I help you formulate the right question, the one that will bring back lightness and direction. If you feel it's your time, reach out to me so we can chat warmly, with no pressure at all.
